HOTEL SOLAMAR

guestroom design | san diego, ca

The Hotel Solamar is a Kimpton property, located in the Gaslamp district of San Diego. The design of the guestrooms was highly driven by the location, and combines modernized Spanish motifs with an eclectic bohemian southern California style. The geometric nailhead pattern on the wallcovering was inspired by a Spanish metal door, and the bathroom wallcovering is a black and white print based on antique Spanish tiles.

I was the lead FF&E designer on this project, and I worked closely with the firm’s principal designer’s to see this project through from conceptual design to the model room installation.

The image to the left is of the model room, which was installed in December 2014, and the images below are the original conceptual renderings.

custom furniture

The furniture for the Solamar guestrooms was designed to with high attention to detail using a variety of finishes and textures to create a layered look that feels curated and collected over time.

bathroom

The Solamar bathrooms had very little light, so the pendant style light fixture was designed to  maximize the overall lighting and frame the user in a flattering manner. Additionally, the ovoid mirror is backlit, which makes it feel as if it’s floating in front of the dramatic black and white wallcovering.
